AMD (News - Alert) recently announced its new ATI FireGL V7700, a 3-D graphics card with support for DisplayPort. The card is designed to provide superior rendering speed, 3-D performance and color fidelity for use computer aided design (CAD), digital content creation and medical imaging professionals.

The ATI FireGL v7700 incorporates a 10-bit graphics display port can produce more than a billion colors.

“Imaging and 3D professionals require innovative, high-performance solutions and are increasingly turning to AMD to meet their real-world needs,” said Janet Matsuda, senior director of Professional Graphics at AMD, in a statement.

Matsuda continued: “The ATI FireGL family of workstation graphics accelerators is designed to deliver visible advantages and performance leadership at every price point, from entry level to ultra-high end. This accelerator with DisplayPort support is the latest example of AMD’s leadership in delivering new graphics technologies ahead of the competition.”

Albert Xthona, product manager at the digital mammography department for Barco (a technology company that specializes in a variety of vertical industries including medical imaging), said the new graphics card already is helping his company succeed. The card’s 10-bit gray and 30-bit color rendering enables very large data sets to be handled smoothly, saving time for busy medical staff.
